What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a complementary therapy which mainly focuses on the reflex points on the feet. It has been estimated that there are over 70,0000 nerve endings in each foot which connect to other parts of the body. Gentle pressure is applied to the feet using special massage techniques. The therapy is based on a system of zones and reflex points which reflect an image of the body onto the feet. By working these areas, changes may be affected on areas of the body.
How can Reflexology help you?
The body has the ability to heal itself. Following illness, stress, injury or disease, it is in a state of imbalance, and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively. Reflexology may be used to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and encourage healing. It aims to re-balance the body, improve sleep and mood, relieve stress and enhance wellbeing.
A reflexologist uses their hands to apply gentle pressure to detect imbalances in the feet and by working on these points the reflexologist tries to release blockages and restore the free flow of energy to the whole body. This gentle therapy aims to encourage the body to heal itself at its own pace.
Reflexologists do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe.
Who can benefit from Reflexology?
Reflexology is suitable for all ages and may help bring some relief from the symptoms of a wide range of conditions. After having completed a course of reflexology treatments for a specific condition, many people find it beneficial to maintain health and well-being. Whilst many people use reflexology as a way of relaxing the mind and body and counteracting stress, at the same time many doctors, consultants and other health care professionals recognise reflexology as a well established, respected and effective therapy.
